| I haven't used a 44 for deer hunting, so this will be second hand info but just about any 240 gr JHP seems to be a very popular bullet. Loaded over a fairly heavy powder charge they'll take any deer walking. |

It is the only 44 Mag load I use these days,no handgun hunting here in Finland but this would be my load for deer as well. The alloy does not shatter, it expands a little and penetrates deeeeeeeppp... I would hit shoulder with this one, expanding bullets are better for lungshots but a proper shoulder hit with a stout cast load will drop a deer right there, thus eliminating the need for tracking.
This load is scaringly accurate, these boolits really like N110. Aloxed, after all day shooting some Ed´s Red is all I need to clean. No leading to talk about.

One bullet weight I tried and will stay away from now was the 200gr Hornady hollowpoints. It ruins way to much meat being that light of a bullet at the speed it has out that gun!! Lost the whole front of a buck with a shoulder shot!! The entire area was bloodhshot from the hit!! I also would of liked to try those Speer 270 gr Gold dot loads, but they weren't out back then!! |
