Handloads.Com ForumHuntingFirst Deer
Well folks, my son shot his first deer yesterday morning. A litle 9 point jumped out of the bushes in front of him and headed straight for him. It stopped facing him directly at 25 yards and he stuck a 130gr Ballistic tips right into the chest. The deer never moved which is good because it never bled externally either. Chest cavity was a mess though and plenty of blood there. I will try to post a picture shortly.

Congratulation to you and your son!

Is it deer season yet?
Congratulations Terry! Going to tan the hide, make a knife handle out of the antlers or anything else interesting with the first one?

Molon Labe!
So, tell us who had a bigger grin, father or son? My son got skunked on his first year out. We have high hopes for this year.

John, we are going to mount just the antlers for his room. A whole head was a bit pricey.

BigBlue, both the grins were pretty big. The friend whose property we were hunting on was pleased as well.

TWILLIS,Congrats!!!!!!!! I will bet my bottom doller you made memories.

Absolutely nothing finer than being with someone the first time they fill a tag. Congrats to the both of you.
The most expensive bullet there is ain’t worth a plug nickel if it don’t go where its supposed to.
Twillis:

When my nephew shot his first (with my rifle, he'd managed to drop the muzzle of his .308 in the mud!), I gave him the cartridge to mount with the horns. He really enjoyed that and that nickel .280 looks pretty neat mounted between them antlers.

Boomer, that is an interesting idea, particularly since I reloaded his ammo.

Whitetail, absolutely great memories. For him, me and the friend whose land we were on.

Boomer, welcome to deer season in southside VA. Sometimes gets close to the 80's in the early part of the season. That day, it was in the 50's.

Twillis don't know which is the best trophy. The deer or the smile on that young mans face.
