Handloads.Com ForumGeneral DiscussionJust shot full IDPA match with Pugzly (the 2" Windicator).
Got some interesting comments.. people thought I was nuts for shooting a 2"'er. First safety officer was impresses with my reload speed ;-)..

Scored 3rd from the bottom, with my wife at the bottom.. She wasn't happy, and neither was I cause she grabbed the CCI primed ammo by mistake....2 squibs....

We're both pretty new to this move and shoot. I know I hesitated for a good 2 seconds between parts of a string of fire.... Figure it's better to hesitate than do anything unsafe anywho.

Glad to see you about. Interesting comment about the CCI primers. I have probably shot 5000 CCI primed bullets from SP to LR and have never had a failure to fire. I am 700 into my last box of LP and everything is hunky dorie. That IDPA stuff might be interesting with my 41 mag Tracker. Problem is, no one makes a speed loader for it.

You know, people think I am crazy for shooting a stock{well the barrel is shorter} ruger with a 14 pound trigger pull, and the fact that it is a 44 makes them want to commit me to a loony bin. I shoot with ICORE, which is,I think, something like IDPA. Alot of shooting, moving and reloading. They mostly shoot smith's with tune-ups, in 357. I say to them that they are crazy for not competing{which is just fun practice} with what they will normally carry. What good is it to be fast with a toy, and not fast with your carry gun. The excuse "Well, if I had my race gun with me" won't cut it in the real world. So, I comend you on going against the flow and using your carry gun.

I don't see anything wrong with using a revolver in IDPA, your current rank means nothing it's wether you improve yourself is what counts.

Joe is right about the racegun excuse. Of course there's a certain amount of satisfaction in beating the guy with the $3,000 racegun when using a stock revolver (I used to do that in pin matchs every once in a while).

A couple folks thought I should be in backup gun class, cause 'everybody' shoots a 4" minimum ;-) I even wear a cover garment, figure it's much better practice that way.

Now we just need to join a club were we can really practice, current club is 100% bullseye and no place to move and shoot practice.

if no one makes a speedloader, you could get your cylinder cut for moonclips like the guys at my range. They say it dosen't affect strength,or reliablility of the gun, but I haven't sent mine off yet. Can't stand to have it gone, even for a little while. I gues it costs about $75 plus moon clips, makes for really fast reloads, though I beat alot of the guys with regular HKS speedloaders

I've heard that you'll need a heavier hammer fall on guns using moon clips. That extra space the clip provides, plus being a little springy means the hammer needs a bit more power behind it to ensure reliable ignition.

I'd think that any K frame size speed loader would work.

Edit: Ok, I was getting crossed up on who needed the speed loader and was thinking it was for braindead's Windicator. Finding one for the 5 shot 41 Mag will be a bigger problem. But you'd also have to have custom moon clips made as well if you went that route.

That is the downside of my choice in revolvers, "stuff" is just plain hard to find. It does seem to be getting better. Nice holsters are hard to come by as well. Holster for L frames seem to work pretty well as long as they are not blocked real tight. Galco now lists the 425.

In regards to CCI: My wifes Taurus Tracker will not reliably fire anything less sensitive than Federal primers. Probably the main spring is a bit light, but my wife loves the trigger pull. Pugzly on the other hand eats anything, never had a misfire.. In fact I shot the squibs she had on the next COF.

Did you lighten the main spring? Have you looked at Wolff springs for a heavier one? Course, the trigger pull will get harder if you put a heavier spring in. She might not like that.
